Time is running out for Ben Greenwood – not as an apprentice for the Royal Institute of Magic, but as the Head Guardian, secretly responsible for uniting Queen Elizabeth's Armour.

Victor Kloss is an incredible writer and I devoured book 5 of the RIM series as soon as it came out and I have to say while I've loved every single book this one is my favorite so far. I'm a total Harry Potter fan and I love the Royal Institute of Magic series just as much. I am now impatiently awaiting book 6.Product details

I really do enjoy this series, however this is where the wheels fall off. Grammatically the book is fine; not exceptionally gifted but not terribly flawed either.
Where this book goes astray is with its structure. The book is obviously hurried (yes I know the author passed away but this is a book review not an obituary) and conceptually it flirts from concept to concept, with every solution occurring as a perfect miracle of happenstance. There's a war; but we aren't ready? Take a week for a training montage! Need transportation while sneaking around? Single handedly storm a castle and then got back to sneaking around! Get lost in a tunnel? Stumble upon a plot twist that has no business being there and then immediately move on to something more shiny. Lose a person and fell like the end is nigh? Find them on the next page (multiple times)! I could go on In excruciating detail but I won't.
In a word, this is written in typical "millennial style" and does an excellent job of demonstrating their short attention span and lack of depth while at the same time idolizing character flaws like, instant gratification, slelfishness, and megalomania. The mechanics are poor and repetitive. After the first two chapters you'll be able to guess the outcome of any situation almost instantly.
I've read all 5 books out now, and have enjoyed each one - though I am, I'm sure, much older than the target age; I do love a good story. I think the price is steep - glad to see book #1 on sale for 99 cents - but... I have still bought them all. Mr. Kloss has a pleasing writing style, believable for the context, and each book leaves you wanting more. I would recommend them to all ages, young and old.
I found myself completely engrossed in this book and wanting to find more time to put into reading it. I must admit that at times I was getting a bit angry at one of good guys and there is a question as to whether not he really is a good guy. You'll have to read the book to find out more details as I don't want to give anything away.
But I can tell you the fun continued and I was very interested in finding out what happened to our heroes. I'm now eagerly awaiting book 6 to wrap up this story. I can't imagine how they're going to win out over the bad guys but I have confidence they will!
I came across the first book in this series as a free download quite awhile ago and just now got around to reading it. After starting the series, I just could not put it down and this book is no different!
I love everything about it!
The flow of the writing, the way the author created this world just leaves you wanting more!
Now the very sad part...
As I often do when reading a series I love, I was so excited to find information about book number six. It was during my search that I found out that Mr. Victor Kloss passed away in Nov. 2016! I was absolutely heartbroken for his family, his wife of ten years and two year old little girl! Mr. Kloss may not be in this world anymore but he may very well be at Institute of Magic practising his spells with his Spellshooter!
I love Voctor Kloss's books, they have all been a delight! There is a lot of humor in this book along side the darker parts. Victor has built an interesting world existing right beaneath our own. Who wouldn't want to travel on the Dragon way! There are a lot of different concepts of magic in this book, that made the discoveries more delightful. My only sorrow is that Victor is now lost to us with his passing away last November, my condolences to his wife and young daughter. With book 6 already half written it will be interesting to see if they can come up with the money to finish the project in his wake.
Each book has been more exciting than the last. I can't wait for the next book. This is a wonderful set of books for anyone who enjoys fantasy, even a 70+ grandmother who enjoys fantasy immensely. I think that we live in a world that has so much negative reality that we can all use a little fantasy in our lives. This is very well written and is good clean fun for all.
I bought these five books on after hearing the story of the author. My son (12y) and I both enjoyed them very much! The storytelling is engaging, the characters are relatable, and it's hard to put the books down! I highly recommend these. I can't wait until the family of the late author is able to arrange for publication of the sixth book. While the writing isn't quite as "perfect" as J.K. Rowling, who virtually never missed a thing, if you enjoyed Harry Potter, you will enjoy these. They are much less coarse than the Percy Jackson books, and the author has clearly thought deeply about the backstory of each character and event. The shame is that, unlike JKR, he won't be here to explain all of that and fix minor inconsistencies like JKR has done. Still, I read he left an outline and extensive notes to help the writer of book six, so perhaps that person will be able to bring the details of the Unseen Kingdoms to life in other ways after the sixth book is complete.
